Our colts are sired by stallions that come from some of the best modern day western performance horses…Stallions like Grey Starlight, High Brow Cat, Jazabelle Quixote,  Colonel Freckles, Peppy San Badger, Smart Little Lena, Doc O’Lena.  Horses with their blood win speed events, show grace and beauty in bridle-less riding and reining, and excel at working cattle . 
How Do These Horses Look to You?
We have started these horses under saddle and enjoy them more every day.  They are smart and gentle and cowy.  A complete package.  No kidding.  

They are anxious to please. You can turn them out to pasture and easily catch them next time you want to ride. None of that running around with a halter trying to catch them. 

Our stallions Bobby Joe Starlight and Cuttin It Up Lena sired them with mares that go back to Remenic, Playgun, Smart Little Lena, Smart Chic O’Lena, Docs Oak, and Mucho Leo Bar.

Our training is putting an athletic foundation in place that enables them to go on and do most anything you dream of.

Bobby Joe is about as versatile as they come.  He is a big stopper and is broke to reining, cutting, sorting, roping, barrel racing.  His mellow disposition means anyone can ride him.  He stands 15 hands and weighs 1,200 pounds. His pedigree--Grey Starlight, High Brow Cat, Jazabelle Quixote, Colonel Freckles.

Cuttin It Up --This beautiful palomino stands about 14-2 hands and weighs 1,000 pounds.  Early in his career he did tons of cutting.  He's grown into a horse of many skills--roping, reining, barrel racing, giving lessons, and packing young children.  His pedigree--Smart Little Lena, Peppy San, Playboy's Remedy.

You have a unique package here: reining and cutting.
The cutting comes from our stallion Cutten It Up Lena and the reining comes from the Playgun-Reminic mare shown in the photo below. 

The mare like the stallion has a gentle disposition.  Anyone can ride these horses. 

Given those qualities means she can grow up and be able to do pretty much anything you dream about.

Olena Playing Smart
This two-year old gelding is just getting started.  His early training shows lots of versatility.  He is out of  Bobby Jo Starlight and the Playgun-Reminic mare. 

He is going to have the size of his father and the agility of his mother, plus a calm disposition.

Peyotes Oakey
This two-year-old mare virtually flies around the pasture.  In addition to her quickness, she is very cowy so we have started her on buffalo to help her focus her energy on a specific task. 

She is very gentle and is a friend to everyone that comes to the barn. 

Her sire is our stallion Bobby Joe Starlight and her mother is a Docs Oak mare.

We call him Willy because that name seems to fit a big, hard running horse that knows how to work.  He runs great to steers and is ready to go to jackpots with you and win.  He knows his way around the mountains and  how to do an honest day's work on the ranch.  He's coming 6, stands 15.3 hands, and weighs 1,300 pounds.

There aren’t many of us left.  The small, family ranches are rapidly disappearing.  So we feel very lucky to be the second generation to run the Briggs Ranch, which is in the Gallatin Valley about 60 miles west of Bozeman, Mt.  

The Tobacco Root Mountains and Jefferson River are at our backdoor to the south, the town of  Whitehall—no traffic lights— is about a mile north, and the Continental Divide closes the valley on the west. It’s a great place to raise a family, and work with livestock.  We count our blessings daily. Here is our crew--from left, Dean and Wendy with their sons Lance and Shawn, with his wife, Nikki.
