                              Developing Dream Horses
Picture
It takes a little time to get from here to over there chasing a cow, but once you get there, it sure is a lot of fun.
Picture
We know a dream horse doesn't come along every day.  And dreaming, as near as we know, never trained a horse.  But we like that idea about a dream horse.  We think everyone should have a dream horse.  We  reach for the dream every day and believe it will appear and it does appear more often than you might think.
The special sauce is simple:  meet the horse where he is--accept the fact that he is what he is.  Talk to him in a way he understands.  Be consistent in your dealings with him.  Then a dream horse becomes possible.

Some might call us old- fashioned.  They might be right.  We are now in the third generation of ranching here in Whitehall and  the fourth is coming on fast.
If you call us old-fashioned, we don’t mind.  That’s a compliment.  We think it shows that we learned from the past and are now using it to good advantage today.
Many of today’s popular horse trainers learned from people who were deep into the cow industry.  That, too, is where out roots are.
Makes sense.  When you work cows and bulls you need what is often called a well-broke horse, which means you and the horse can work together to get a job done.
Maybe a better way to say it is that you are riding a “dream horse.”

Buffalo  Night

On Wednesdays at 5 pm, we train our horses with buffaloes.  This is great for horses--young or old, experienced or not.  It's a controlled situation that allows you to work your horse slow and easy or at a faster more challenging pace.
                          Roping Practice
On Monday's at 5 pm, we work on our roping.  Weather does not matter to us.  When it's nice we are in the outside arena.  Bad weather and cold is no problem.  We just move inside.

                                                                            Special Events
In addition to our weekly events, we schedule special activities each year that we tailor to the interests of our customers.  Dean’s horsemanship clinics are always in demand and we limit them to just 12 riders.  We take team sorting to a new level with our Halloween costume sorting, and  we have a variety of youth events.  To see some of the action, click on the button below.

Has your horse changed recently in some way that you can’t
put your finger on?  Not a big deal, but it nags at you.
Your horse probably needs a good tune-up.  An assessment of everything, feet, teeth, back, joints, and diet.
Dean can help you figure out what’s wrong and what to do about that nagging feeling.
Call him today and schedule a meeting.  His phone: 406-490-3670.

There aren’t many of us left.  The small, family ranches are rapidly disappearing.  So we feel very lucky to be the second generation to run the Briggs Ranch, which is in the Gallatin Valley about 60 miles west of Bozeman, Mt.

The Tobacco Root Mountains and Jefferson River are at our backdoor to the south, the town of  Whitehall—no traffic lights— is about a mile north, and the Continental Divide closes the valley on the west. It’s a great place to raise a family, and work with livestock.  We count our blessings daily. Here is our crew--from left, Dean and Wendy with their sons Lance and Shawn, with his wife, Nikki.
